Funeral Services for Wilma M. Markham will be conducted at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Nathan Reckling officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Harlan County, Nebraska.

Wilma Maxine Markham, 91 years of age, of Alma, Nebraska (formerly of Stamford, Nebraska) passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma. Wilma was born June 13, 1916 on the family farm in Harlan County south of Stamford, Nebraska, one of two children of Walter Wilson and Ellen Marie (Hanson) Markham. She received her education at Stamford, graduating from Stamford High School with the class of 1934 and then pursued higher education at Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minnesota graduating in 1937 with her teaching degree. Wilma first taught in a rural school near Stamford, and then taught at Lincoln Christian School in Lincoln, Nebraska for many years. Later she was employed by Back To The Bible radio broadcast. Following her retirement, she returned to Stamford.

Wilma was a devoted Christian and had a heart for evangelism. She enjoyed leading and participating in many church functions including bible studies and sponsored several children to bible camps. She had a special love for animals, especially cats. Wilma had lived at the Colonial Villa since March of 2005.

She leaves to mourn her passing her first cousins: Ervin Johnson of Beaver City, Nebraska and Donna Hutchinson of Nyssa, Oregon; many other cousins and a host of special friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wendell Wayne Markham.

Wilma will lie in state at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Wilma's memory and suggested to Back To The Bible or Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center.
