Funeral Services for Winona J. Zelske will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend David Sites officiating. Interment will be held at the Stamford Cemetery in Stamford, Nebraska.
Winona Joan Zelske, 79 years of age, of Oxford, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Beaver City Manor in Beaver City, Nebraska. She was born on July 10, 1931 at Stamford, Nebraska the youngest of two children born to John E. and Meta E. (Lubeck) Zelske. She graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1949.
Winona continued to live with her parents while they were living in Stamford. She moved to Oxford in 1970.
Winona was first employed in 1949 as a telephone operator. She then worked 10 years as a sales clerk at Nadens General Store in Stamford, for eight years as a sales clerk at the General Merchandise Store in Oxford, at the library in the 1980s and most recently wrote social news for the Oxford Standard.
Winona had been a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege since 1987 and was a past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford. She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking. She was known for her love of collecting dog figurines and at one time had over 50 figurines.
Besides her parents, Winona was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Huff and her brother-in-law, Rolland Huff.
Winona is survived by nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial has been established in her memory and will be designated at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
