Funeral Services for Zella D. Richman will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Huntley United Methodist Church in Huntley, Nebraska with Reverend Jean Clayton and Pastor Dave Mendyk officiating. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery, in rural Harlan County, Nebraska.
Zella Darlene Richman, 89 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska. Zella was born January 5, 1930 near Ragan, Nebraska in Harlan County, the youngest of five children born to Frank and Rosa (Schroder) McConnell. She received her primary education from a rural country school near Ragan, and then attended Huntley Public School and graduated from Huntley High School with the class of 1947.
On December 12, 1948, Zella was united in marriage to Harvey Vernon Richman at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. The couple made their home in the Huntley area. To this union two sons were born: Steve and Rick.
Zella worked as a bookkeeper at Cudahays and the ASC Office in Alma for a number of years. She also worked at the Huntley CO-OP and was the Post Master in Huntley for 11 years.
Zella enjoyed playing the piano; flower gardening; music; and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Huntley United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rick Lee Richman in 2007; and her siblings.
Zella leaves to celebrate her life; her husband of 71 years, Harvey Richman of Alma; son, Steve Richman and his wife, Gloria of Raymond, Nebraska; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Wanda McConnell of Phillipsburg, Kansas; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Zella's honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
